Barcelona are reportedly interested in bringing in Erling Haaland. However, to get the Borussia Dortmund striker, the Blaugrana had to sell a number of players.
Haaland is indeed attracting the attention of many clubs. How could he not, he has been able to score a total of 47 goals from 48 appearances for Die Borussen so far.
With such sharpness, Haaland can improve the quality of Barcelona’s attacks. Moreover, Barca has no predators on the front lines after Luis Suarez’s departure.
However, of course it is not easy to bring Haaland to the Camp Nou. The transfer of the 20 year old player can be very costly.
Barcelona’s current financial condition is so bad. Therefore, they had to sell a number of players first before buying Haaland.
So, which players can Barcelona sell to fund Haaland’s transfer? Here is the list.
Junior Firpo
Junior Firpo was brought in by Barcelona to compete with Jordi Alba. However, the 24-year-old player has become an eternal reserve.
Junior Firpo did not get many opportunities to play under Ronald Koeman. So far the player has only appeared 6 times in the La Liga event.
Junior Firpo still has a contract at Barcelona until 2024. However, the player seems to have to leave Camp Nou if he wants to get a chance to play regularly.
Philippe Coutinho
Philippe Coutinho was brought in by Barcelona in January 2018 at a high price. Coutinho was proposed from Liverpool for a fee of 145 million euros.
However, Coutinho has so far not been able to bring out his best potential at the Camp Nou. In fact, the Brazilian attacking midfielder was loaned out to Bayern Munich last season.
This season, Coutinho has spent more time in the treatment room because of an injury. As a result, the 28-year-old has played only 14 times in all competitions so far.
Antoine Griezmann
Just like Coutinho, Barcelona spent enormous funds to recruit Antoine Griezmann. The French player was recruited from Atletico Madrid at a cost of up to 120 million euros
Griezmann has scored 13 goals and 11 assists in 39 games this season. However, his appearance is still considered not as expected.
As a result, the future of the former Real Sociedad player at the Camp Nou has often been speculated. Barcelona are said to be selling Griezmann because they are not satisfied with his contribution.
Martin Braithwaite
Martin Braithwaite has been defending Barcelona since January 2020. The Blaugrana recruited him from Leganes to overcome the crisis of players on the front lines.
In the 2020-2021 season, Braithwaite is Barcelona’s only pure striker. The reason is, they have already released Luis Suarez to Atletico Madrid.
Unfortunately, Braithwaite’s performance was not satisfactory. Braihtwaite this season has only scored seven goals in various events that Barcelona has participated in.
Since being brought in from Valencia, Neto has only become the second choice goalkeeper. The Brazilian player found it difficult to shift the main goalkeeper, Marc-Andre Ter Stegen.
This season, Neto also spends more of his time on the bench. Ronald Koeman has only played the goalkeeper in 11 matches in all competitions.
Neto is reportedly already unhappy with his situation at the Camp Nou. For this reason, Neto is said to want to leave the club in the transfer market next summer.
Samuel Umtiti
At first, Samuel Umtiti managed to make a good impression at Barcelona. The French center-back has been very solid following his arrival from Lyon in the summer of 2016.
However, the injury to Umtiti hampered his career development at Barcelona. As a result, Umtiti rarely appears on the field.
This season, Umtiti has played 13 matches in all competitions. Unfortunately, his performance looked bad enough because he often made mistakes at the back.
Miralem Pjanic
Miralem Pjanic left Juventus in the 2020 summer transfer market. He was released to Barcelona with a trade-in system involving Arthur Melo.
However, Pjanic’s career at the Camp Nou does not seem to be going smoothly. The Bosnian international midfielder has had few opportunities under Ronald Koeman.
Pjanic has played 17 matches in La Liga. However, the former AS Roma player only started six times.
