Tottenham reportedly broke their club’s transfer record in moving for Everton striker Richarlison, a transfer worth $72.6 million. Tottenham completed the signing of Richarlison from Everton for 50m pounds plus a maximum of 10m in additions. He is set to announce the signing, provided the striker passes his medical tests in Brazil. Richarlison underwent a medical in Brazil and will now join Tottenham on a five-year contract. Fellow Londoners Chelsea were also bidding for Everton’s Richarlison, competing with Tottenham Hotspur to sign him, but Everton agreed on terms with the north London club Thursday morning. Spurs did quick work of acquiring Everton striker Richarlison, beating out rival clubs to seal the deal.
Chelsea made a last-ditch effort to purchase Richarlison, offering a player-plus-money deal, before Tottenham closed negotiations. In doing so, Richarlison became Tottenham’s most expensive signing ever. It is understood that the 25-year-old was keen to depart Goodison Park this summer, having spent four seasons at Everton. It looked at one stage like Richarlison was going north London to become Arsenal’s latest signing. Still, the Gunners turned their attentions towards other star players from Samba, like Gabriel Jesus and Rafael Heapinho. Spurs, beating out interest from London rivals Chelsea and Arsenal, have secured Everton striker Richarlison. Strangely, Spurs announced the Brazil international’s arrival with a montage video showing the best goal of Richarlisons vs. Spurs; it did the same thing earlier this summer when signing Yves Bissouma.
Tottenham target Memphis Depay has described a comeback to the Premier League as a “very nice” competition. The Dutchman made the remarks after being rumoured with Spurs in 2019, which may motivate the club to press further in their pursuit of the Barcelona striker. Reports have recently connected the North London club with a deal for the Dutch international with tough opponents. Arsenal is also keeping a close eye on his condition to sabotage the trade. Depay earlier spent two seasons in the Premier League at Manchester United, where he struggled badly, scoring only twice. Depay joined the Blaugrana in 2021, following four years with Lyon. The Dutchman scored 13 goals in 38 matches for the Catalan club, a total that supporters anticipated him to surpass in his debut season.
Tottenham’s desire for the player may be boosted by statements he made three years ago when he had been linked to the club while still at Lyon. Depay told Voetbalprimeur that he would be interested in returning to the English Premier League. “It’s a really wonderful competition,” he said. “It’s up to the interested club.” Tottenham is backing Conte as he is aiming to win titles with them.
